Lots of eyes
buzzed, B&W
So, open source has this philosophy that lots of eyes allows for things to be fixed quickly and for this to stay secure. I've mentioned in the past that the WAP here at the Mudhouse isn't secure. I got here tonight, and while I was getting an IP, I couldn't get outside the subnet. So I logged into the WAP, and I fixed it by renewing the IP address. (Who knows why the router didn't renew by itself.) Anyway, I think this is a good example of how having many eyes can keep things working. I mentioned this previously on Slashdot.

Of course, the parallel isn't perfect, but there are some similarities.
