It takes a village . . .

The more and more I work with kids, I realize it truly takes a village to raise a child. The number of kids today whose parents do not provide solid home lives for them, whether it be intentional or not, is staggering. Whether it be due to the need for jobs, alcoholism, single-parent homes, lack of education, etc, children's needs are not getting met. This is where the community must step in, realizing that children truly are the future. There are so many well educated people, who are so selfish, and just don't realize that even an hour a month could provide huge rewards. Rather than thinking "why are those kids loitering there and being a nuisance," these people should be thinking "what could I do to provide these children with alternatives?"
