The Library

So, I'm browsing the catalog of the Springfield-Greene County Library, trying to find a book or two to read. I remember that the new Alvin Maker book is out by one of my favorite authors, Orson Scott Card. For those who aren't familiar with the series, it's a retelling of the Joseph Smith tale, with Alvin Maker being the Smith figure and dealing with persecution for his radical ideas. Anyway, the books been out about a month now, and while the library has 15 copies, they're all checked out, and there are 18 holds on the book. Fortunately, it seems that First Meetings, a collection of novellas set in the Enderverse is available.

On a related note, I really do appreciate the library and it's online catalog. It's got a decent interface that lets you search by all the standard fields, but you can also browse by category (i.e. audio books, videos, dvds, toys, etc). It also lets you place holds online.

Security through obscurity

Being a mad |337 hacker, I discovered that the password to the WAP here at the Mudhouse is "mudhouse." (It was my first guess after trying the default "admin" on the SMC WAP they have. If I were evil, I could disable the WAP, add a WEP key, disable DHCP, etc etc. Good thing I'm not evil . . .
