Boo for flying out of MT

So, I've been selected (again) to volunteer at Destination Imagination Global Finals. This usually is a pretty nice deal since they pay for everything except your transportation costs. In the past, this wasn't bad as I'd been coming from the Chicago area, the Cincinnati area, and Springfield, MO. But, now that I'm in MT, it's prohibitively expensive, with tickets for the dates I need (travel on May 24th and 30th so I can be there on the 25th-29th) is almost $450. In my desperation for cheaper travel, I checked out Amtrak. Ignoring the fact that I have to drive 3 hours to a station, and that I'd only get to Cincinnati and that the whole trip would take 2 days each way, I can do it for $274, and then whatever it would take me to get to Knoxville. While the logistics wouldn't work for me (I don't have 4 days to spare, and finding travel from Cinci to Knoxville would be a bit of a challenge), Amtrak is intriguing. If I didn't have my car, I think I'd consider it for traveling back home after I'm done here.

Looks like I could visit Tony for around $284 (with only 40 hours or so each way). Oh for the luxury of time or money . . . *sighs*

I think I'm going to have to cave and ask my parents for help - they offered to buy me a tent or a season pass before I came out here, and I didn't take them up on the offer . . . maybe it'll still stand . . .
