While I'll accept that I'm liberal I don't know if it's the most defining trait of mine . . . and practical and intellectual are at 9 and 10? And we all know I'm stylish (as I sit here wearing white socks and Birkenstocks . . . ) . . . Right . . .
On a completely unrelated note, The Decemberists are playing a concert here in two weeks. They're on one of my brother's favorite labels. (And I'm reminded of the older woman that saw my brother's hoodie that said "Kill Rock Stars" and asked the waitress at the restaurant to ask my brother what he did like . . . ) Apparently, they're lead singer is from Helena, hence the local show. In a moment of boredom, I found this blog entry written by someone who knew the lead singer while growing up in Helena. It mentions a book that seems like it'd be an interesting read, written by the lead singer, that's in the 33 1/3 series. I think the blog entry is pretty amusing, as the guy writes well and talks about what his high school experience with music was like.
Anyway, to get to the point, the few samples I've found of the Decemberists online, makes me want to go see the show. As an anecdote about small town life here in Helena, the only reason I decided to put this much effort into researching an upcoming show was because when I went to Flicker's (a local coffee shop), the owner (who always remembers what I order, even though I'm in there less than once a month and gives us a VISTA discount), mentioned the show, and plugged the band a bit, mentioned they had opened for Cake, and that they had received some significant press . . .
